Broccoli is a relatively easy plant to grow in your Harvest to Home garden. Simply sit back and watch the outside leaves grow large with the crown sprouting in the middle. Once the Broccoli crown has grown to 6-8 inches in diameter you may pick small pieces off to add to your meals. You can also wait till the crown has grown to its full size 10-12 inches in diameter then harvest the entire crown.Broccoli leaves can attract hornworms that will eat holes through your leaves. Regular applications of “BT” are recommended. It can also attract aphids, regular applications of Essential Oil is recommended as well.
Among cabbage crops broccoli is arguably the best all-around choice for the home gardener. It is thought to be a Mediterranean native. It will harvest a fresh head ready for you to pick quickly.
Best site: In a sunny location in cooler weather.
Pruning, training: Remove any dead leaves.
Time to harvest: Harvest in 7 to 8 weeks.
Harvest: You can start to snip off parts of the head as it grows. Make sure to harvest the entire head before it starts to turn yellow.
Pest control: Regular applications of BT strongly recommended, essential oil is also recommended.
