FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. What if I already have an existing raised bed garden? No problem! We come out to diagnose the state of your current garden and make a plan to meet your expectations and get it up to our Harvest to Home standards. Soil is the key to any garden and we strongly recommend using at least 12” of our special organic soil (plants take nutrients in the first 12”). Pricing is standard and itemized but irrigation will vary upon the situation. You can send in pictures and measurements to get an idea on pricing but an at home consultation is the most thorough.
2. Does the garden need to sit on top of soil or can it go on concrete? Most garden beds sit directly on the soil but we do offer raised beds on stilts to accommodate any situation. The only requirement is a level surface and we always take drainage into consideration with our recommendations.
3. How much Sun do I need? The more sun the better! 5-7 hours of direct sunlight is recommended. Plants such as lettuce and leafy greens can tolerate shadier conditions.Fruit producing plants such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers, need more energy from long hours of sunshine and heat.
4. How does the irrigation system work? We use irrigation that is specifically for edible gardens. This system can be installed off of an existing valve or hose spigot. We will assess your water pressure and suggest new valves, lines or emitters if needed to optimize your garden's watering set up.
5. How do your maintenance services work? The majority of our clients choose a weekly service plan. We do offer a bi-weekly frequency to clients who are more hands-on and involved in their garden, as there is always work to be done! We advise new clients to do one full season of weekly service before tapering off to less frequency if desired. Pricing is based on square footage.
6. How many plants can I fit in my garden beds? This depends on what you would like to grow. You can fit 10 lettuce plants in the space it takes to grow 4 tomatoes. Our Urban Farmers will help you make the right decisions for your garden.
7. How do you manage pests and critters? Our maintenance team are experts at combating pests. We utilize organic sprays, pellets and netting to prevent and deter unwanted garden visitors. If larger critters become a problem, we offer customizable critter protection to build onto your garden beds for an additional cost.
8. What areas do you service? We primarily service Orange County, as well as some pockets of Los Angeles.
